I LOVE this story. I think it’s so neat that he is a collector and old soda bottles are so fun to find. A boy after my own heart. You did such a great job capturing his treasure hunt. I hope he finds what he’s looking for on his next adventure.
Thanks so much, Kris! The best part of it for me as a mom is the time we spend and the fact that I have such a great relationship with my 14 year old son. I’ve heard horror stories for years about the “teen years”, but we actually enjoy spending time antiquing together. THAT is a treasure to me!
Sharon, I am SO not a bargain person! I used to always just pay the price on the ticket. Not anymore; my boy has taught me to bargain, and I usually save at least 20%, IF I get the item! It gets easier each time you try it.
wow. epic post. i am in love. after i finish the circle, i’m going to come back and read it again. i loooooooved this story, pam. i adore your child. his seriousness, and yet, his innocence, all trapped in the same eyes. the reader in me loves the build up to how he became a collector at all. and bottles, of all things. the images were just the perfect cherry on top. i mean, it’s every readers dream to have actual images to convey the same story (::pause:: beautiful back-lit color shot of the bottles, btw). i loved your storytelling so very, very much. BEAUTIFUL POST!
Oh, Pam! Where do I even begin? I love this post so much! Your pictures led me through your trip to the store –him looking around, picking up a bottle, looking and studying it, asking about the price… Wonderful! I love that he’s taken such a deep interest in something that just started out as just whimsical fun. I love that he bargains and shows restraint. You have a special boy in Adam. =)
